The path to social justice and equality is not a one-lane road where everyone must jockey for advantage. It’s a path of collaboration and solidarity between people of different races and ethnicities, genders and sexual orientations, and work situations.

Christine Chavez has shown fierce commitment to building this solidarity. She has forged ties between Latino and Black communities, worked for marriage equality, supported union activism and empowered women. The granddaughter of legendary labor and civil rights activist Cesar Chavez, she has spent her life around the farm worker movement. Currently, she works for the US Department of Agriculture, reaching out to underserved farmers.

WashU Olin is proud to welcome Chavez to share the story of her fight for civil rights, social justice and labor equality.
